After a three year relationship, Black former Democratic Memphis Congressman Harold Ford is now engaged to “marry” his White girlfriend Emily Threlkeld.  While running as a Democrat for the US Senate in Tennessee in 2006, Harold kept this forbidden relationship a secret.  Of course, we now know that the trashy White woman, who said she met Harold at a Playboy party, from the RNC attack ad against Ford referred to Threlkeld.  Despite being a Democrat year, Ford lost the Senate race to former Republican Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker, 51% to 49%.

This “marriage” has raised a lot of eyebrows, considering Ford is planning a run for Governor of Tennessee in 2010.  Just imagine this Black playboy and his New York fashionista co-hauler on the campaign trail, meeting with the folks at Dollywood, at country music festivals in Nashville, or at Black BBQ restaurants in Memphis.  Many Blacks in Tennessee and elsewhere have already expressed feelings of betrayal that Ford would not marry his own, and many Whites have long been suspicious of this Black bachelor.  No “wedding” date has yet been announced, and Ford still doesn’t publicly discuss this relationship.
